In addition to our social and charitable activities, Merrimack Friends and Families actively participate in service projects for the community. This club year we have many diverse service activities planned. We hope to offer a wide assortment of activities to include everyone in the club in some form or another.
We started off by hosting a food drive for the NH Food Bank, an agency that distributes food to over 350 agencies in NH including 4 in Merrimack. We were able to donate 197 pounds of non-perishable food items, many of which were urgently needed items that had been or were close to being depleted.
In August 2007 assisted the Town of Merrimack Welfare Department in providing backpacks stuffed with school supplies for children of families in need. This project has been very successful in past years and was just as successful this year.
In September 2007 we raised over $1700 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by participating in the “Light the Night Walk.” Over 14 of our members walked and it was a great day!
In November 2007 we collected winter coats for kids of the Nashua Childrens Home and stuffed animals for the food pantry at St. John Neumann Church.
In January and February 2008 we collected items for care packages for our troops overseas.
In March, we collected items to fill 32 Easter baskets for the Merrimack Welfare Dept.
We have a few more activities planned that will encourage our members to volunteer their time, make donations or raise awareness for important organizations. Among these things are the Humane Society pet walk and blood drives.
